Shantiniketan – Situated in the District of Birbhum in West Bengal, India, was founded by Maharshi Devendranath Tagore, but it came to fame when Gurudev Rabindra Nath Tagore started living here and created Viswa Bharati University- the concept of open air schools.
The tagore family developed this area with many such contributions as Gurudev’s literary achievements and also taught the rural crowd towards making handicrafts with commonly available things. Shantiniketan has been declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site very recently.
